🎤 Weekly Chart Commentary – DECEMBER 6, 2025

This looks like the first week of December on the Hot 100, where it feels like two charts are meeting simultaneously. On one hand, you have Taylor Swift and the new generation of pop stars dominating the upper echelons. On the other, the Christmas flood that arrives every year has finally broken the door. This creates a busy, if somewhat frenetic, scene on the December 6, 2025, chart.

At the very top, there’s no movement. Fate of Ophelia enters an eighth week at number 1, maintaining Taylor Swift’s massive presence atop the chart. This track continues to prove unbelievably consistent, repelling threats both from new releases and Christmas classics. In at number 2, again, comes the ever-consistent Golden by HUNTR/X featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI. This release maintains the position it’s occupied for twenty-three weeks, having had such an extended run that it’s already had an experience as the number 1 hit. At number 3, as always, comes Ordinary by Alex Warren. This track maintains an outstanding position, having occupied the charts for an astonishing forty-two weeks and having had the number 1 position possibly months ago.

Immediately below the three constant leaders, the Christmas surge begins to come into play. Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You rockets from 8 to 5, and for the moment, it’s hard to see it as something that won’t try to reclaim the number one spot it usurped back in December 2019. Wham’s Last Christmas rises 11-6, Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree moves 13-7, and Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock moves 14-8. The presence of three blasts from the past clustered close together near the leaders gives the chart’s upper echelons an uncannily holiday-like look.

“Christmas,” however, brings more activity, but it’s not merely the aftermath of the Top 10, as Andy Williams’ “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” makes an astonishing 30-17 leap, Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” enters the Top 20 at 19, and Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath The Tree” and the Ronettes “Sleigh Ride” are well into the Top 20. Within the 20-25 range, there’s a holiday collection of Burl Ives, Jose Feliciano, and the ever-lovely Darlene Love. Then there are the new entries, such as the return of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” which enters the chart at 34, Perry Como’s “It’s Beginning to look A lot like Christmas,” which enters the chart at 38, “Run Rudolph Run,” which enters the chart at 39, and the following, which enter the chart even later but are no less significant, such as “Deck the Halls,” which enters the chart at 45, “Santa Baby,” which enters the chart at 49, and Blue Christmas, which enters the chart at 50.

This activity, despite the summer surge, leaves plenty of play for the latest pop and country. Olivia Dean flies low with one of the best weeks going. Man I Need remains at 4, her highest charting position to date, and So Easy (To Fall In Love) remains inside the Top 30, while A Couple Minutes and Nice To Each Other chart well into the lower rankings, and Let Alone The One You Love gets a start low on the chart, at 95. Having no less than five titles on the Hot 100 chart charts indicates significant album acceptance far beyond her last hit.

Tate McRae makes her presence felt as well. Tit For Tat lingers in the upper third region, ranked 26, while new songs Nobody’s Girl (29), Anything But Love (44), Trying On Shoes (59), and Horseshoe (84) enter the chart together. This indicates Tate had four entries together, and it reflects how much the masses are craving the whole package that Tate offers. Ariana Grande makes her presence felt as well.

The evergreen Santa Tell Me enters the chart at 13, and her new entry, The Girl In The Bubble, enters the chart at 100. Also, Ariana Grande appears as the vocalist for ‘Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande – For Good,’ which enters the chart at 43, as the Wicked soundtrack makes its mark.

Cynthia Erivo makes her entrance as well. No Good Deed enters the chart at 56, and her new entry, As Long As You’re Mine (feat. Jonathan Bailey), enters the chart at 91. This indicates that the movie makes its mark on the lower half of the chart straight from the start.

Taylor Swift’s influence, however, does not merely sit atop position number 1. Opalite stays strong at 10, Elizabeth Taylor, 53, Father Figure, 69, Wi$h Li$t, 71, The Life Of A Showgirl, 80, and Ruin The Friendship, 98. This account showcases that there are six total Swift hits on the Hot 100 chart for the week, ranging from the number one position straight to the last five. This illustrates an involved support base listening to B-sides, not merely the hit track.

In country, Morgan Wallen continues to be huge with I Got Better At 16 and 20 Cigarettes At 55. Cody Johnson has two entries as Travelin’ Soldier falls to 62 but remains healthy having only been on the chart for three weeks, while The Fall sits tight at 73. Luke Combs is similarly situated with Back In The Saddle at 74 and Days Like These at 88, making him one of the most constant hit-makers for the format, both high and low. Megan Moroney, Parker McCollum, Lainey Wilson, HARDY, Russell Dickerson, and Tucker Wetmore complete a healthy showing for country, proving that, despite the dominance of Christmas and pop, country remains very much alive.

Hip hop and R&B are represented as well. Gunna’s wgft with Burna Boy peaks at 47, YoungBoy Never Broke Again enters the chart with Shot Callin at 64 and follows up with What You Is at 99, and G Herbo’s Went Legit remains on the chart at 89. Cardi B appears twice on the chart, as ErrTime enters the chart at 79 and Safe featuring Kehlani appears at 93. Hip hop and R&B contributions are rounded out by Sugar On My Tongue by Tyler, the Creator, Fear by NF, and Jealous Type by Doja Cat, as well as the continued upward ascent of Mariah the Scientist featuring Kali Uchis’s Is It A Crime, which appears at 57.

On the global mainstream chart, the internationalexcitement translates into an even stronger international flavour. Stray Kids make their debut on the chart with their track Do It at number 68, adding K-pop influence, which already includes the likes of Saja Boys and their Soda Pop, ranking 35, as well as Your Idol ranking 40 and HUNTR/X’s How It’s Done, which ranks 52 and makes their second appearance. BigXthaPlug recruitsPost Malone for their Cold, which ranks 82, as well as maintains their position for Hell At Night featuringElla Langley, ranked 46.

As an entire week, it feels like this one marks the turning point. The first half of the big hits of the year are just holding on. Taylor Swift is digging her heels into the number one position. Meanwhile, the holiday classics are bursting from everywhere, the songs from the movie soundtracks for Wicked are beginning to chart, and new pop and country material equals multiple entries. December 6 marks the point where the Hot 100 officially becomes less autumnal and enters total holiday mode, but there’s no mistaking that the stars of 2025 are, for the most part, pulling the strings.
