Modern Talking Band: A Biography

Modern Talking was one of the most successful and iconic German pop duo in the musical history. In the 80s the duo–Thomas Andres and Deiter Bohlen–won millions of hearts with their Eurodisco sound. Modern Talking band was formed in 1983, and they rose to international fame with their magical vocals and synthesizer-driven beats.

Throughout the world, the band became popular because of their ability to create timeless hits despite the language barriers. Moreover, they became popular across Europe, Asia, and beyond due to their romantic themes and their electric energy during performances. Modern Talking Band History

Modern Talking band started its journey back in 1983 in West Germany. Thomas Andres and Deiter Bohlen started the band as a duo during the golden era of synth-pop and electronic music. The duo first released their first single song “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul,” in 1984. It became a massive hit in Germany along with the all-around Europe. This hit single also enjoyed a top 10 position in 35 countries. This unexpected success gave them the extra mile cementing their legacy as superstars not just in Europe but also around the world.  

With their debut success, Modern Talking band became very famous which gave the signal to release their first album named “The First Album” in 1985. On, 2 September 1985, the duo released “Cheri, Cheri Lady“, another iconic song that enjoyed a massive success. It was the only single in their second studio album “Let’s Talk About Love (1985). Being on the German Single Chart, the song topped around European countries including West Germany, Finland, Greece, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Norway. Besides, it also won the platinum certification like their first with 5,00,000 copies sold. After the success of these tracks, Modern Talking gave several other hit numbers before the duo split their path in 1987. With this new project, he gave several hits including “Sorry Little Sarah”, “My Bed Is Too Big”, and “Under My Skin”. But very interestingly, Bohlen and Andres came back together in 1998. That year they had a successful comeback with which they would release several albums for the next five years. Again after 5 years of working together, the popular pop duo split up and continued their solo career.

Thomas Anders

Thomas Andress was the lead vocalist of Modern Talking band with several hit songs on his name. He was born as Bernd Weidung. For the Modern Talking, Anders served as the lead vocalist. He was the charismatic face of the band and he was known for his smooth voice. Moreover, Andress was a great showman. Dieter Bohlen

In 1985, the Modern Talking band won the prestigious German music award Bambi Award after their outstanding performance on their first album. The award was given to them in recognition of their rise in stardom on the international level.

Modern Talking won several World Music Awards as well. The awards were presented to them for being among the best-selling German acts across the globe. From the German teen magazine Bravo, Modern Talking won several Bravo Otto Awards.
